Our nursery focuses on biodiversity. We are quickly accumulating a wide variety of fruit trees that are rarely seen in production, commercial local timber varieties that the forestry department does not normally carry, indigenous palms whose habitats are slowly being lost to fires and development, trees that provide food and shelter to wildlife and trees whose seeds wash up on our shores from the Orinoco watershed of South America. Trees from our nursery go towards our biodiversity project at Wa Samaki Ecosystems, land rehabilitation projects done by our consulting company (Caribbean Permaculture Consultants) and projects involving planting in school yards and around playing fields. Our commercial nursery is now open....
Wa Samaki Ecosystems was originally created around a design involving a fish farm. We once supplied tropical fish to the North American pet industry, but our state of the art, intensive recirulating system is currently mothballed awaiting an intern that wants a 1-2 year aquaculture project. We still produce tropical fish for the aquarium trade in trinidad on a small scale. Plans are underway to begin tilapia, fresh water conch and crayfish production.....
